Locations of Dim Mak Pressure Points How to Locate or Find Points
Learning any new subject or skill such as the locations of dim mak pressure points usually involves learning the 'jargon' or words and phrases specific to what is being studied. When learning pressure points for self defence or healing, there is not only the vocabulary to be learnt, but also an entire list of concepts that make it unique. One of these concepts is the unique method of measurement, and what this means in terms of locating or finding pressure points accurately on any person at all times, regardless of their size. Dim mak is a precise art, it requires a high level of sustained accuracy to be effective. In order to ensure this level of accuracy, the method used to determine the exact location of any given point requires the use of two different elements: - the ability to quickly and efficiently determine the anatomical landmarks of a person's body, and to sum up the size of their "Cun". This is done visually.
- knowledge of the system of measurement used, that is, the 'Cun'
While the Cun was devised as a system of measurement by the Chinese acupuncture masters thousands of years ago, this system still holds true and accurate today, for any given person. The reason for this is that the Cun is based on solving the difficulty of point location on any body type and size, because it is based on anatomical features of eachindividual person. For comprehensive diagrams that outline this system of measurement you can refer to my dim mak manual "Art & Science of deadly pressure point fighting". But for the purpose of this article, we will work with written descriptions. One Cun is the distance between the two ends of the creases of the interphalangeal joints of the middle finger. Three Cun is the distance between all four fingers, held close together, at the level of the middle joint of the index finger. There are other measurements, two Cun, 1.5 Cun that can also be found on various other distances on the hand. Everyone's body can then be summed up by it's set of Cun measurements, for example, the length of the anterior hairline to posterior hairline is 12 Cun, the distance across the chest between the two nipples, in men, is 8 Cun, and so on. This may sound complicated but it is in fact quite easy when you use the system I have devised to locate any pressure point very quickly and accurately in any situation. I teach this sytem in all my programmes.Again, keep in mind that although we use the method from acupuncture, we are not doing acupuncture, we are applying dim mak in motion. So the way to locate points is obviously different to the precision used in acupucnture. Once a practitioner can quickly sum up the size of a person's Cun, they are able to accurately pinpoint any pressure point on the body. For example, Gall Bladder 24 is 4 Cun lateral to the midline. It is in this spot on most people, regardless of their size, always 4 Cun. In dim mak you visually assess the size of a person's Cun and then you use this knowledge to allow you to accurately strike at Gall Bladder 24, everytime. Nearly all dim mak pressure points are given locations on the body based on their Cun measurement from a prominent anatomical landmark. Knowing how this system of measurement works is as essential to understanding the art of pressure points as knowing the functions and consequences of each point. After all, if you can't find a pressure point, you won't be able to hit it! Finally, two reminders: - Point location in dim mak or any pressure point study should be nothing less than completely accurate; if you are not accurate then you will not get much effect in your self defence or healing applications. So beware of the teachers who cannot be accurate in their location of points.
- If you want to strike a point, first you'll need to know exactly where it is!
